About the Article Schema Generator

Article markup helps Google understand who wrote a piece, when it was published or updated, and which images represent it, which can inform the title, date and image it shows. Google lists no required properties for Article; the recommended set is headline, image, datePublished, dateModified and author with a name and, ideally, a url pointing to the author's profile page.

This article schema generator lets you choose Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle and produces the JSON-LD in your browser, so drafts stay on your device. Provide images in more than one aspect ratio if you have them, use ISO 8601 dates with a time zone such as +05:30, and only change dateModified when the content meaningfully changes. Pair it with Person markup on your author pages for a clearer picture of authorship.

How to use it

  1. Choose Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle.
  2. Enter the headline, image URLs and publish and modified dates.
  3. Add each author with a name and profile URL, plus the publisher.
  4. Copy the JSON-LD into the article template and test it.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle?

All three work for Google's article features. BlogPosting suits blog content, NewsArticle suits timely news reporting, and Article is a safe general choice for guides or features. Pick the one that honestly describes the page rather than the one you think sounds most important.

Is Article schema needed to appear in Top Stories?

No. Google does not require Article markup for Top Stories or Google News. Eligibility depends on content, news policies and relevance. Markup can still help Google read your headline, dates and images correctly, so it is worth adding to news and blog templates.

How do I mark up multiple authors?

List each author as a separate Person object in an array, each with its own name and url. Do not combine several names into one name field, and do not put the publisher's name in the author field unless the organization genuinely wrote the article.
