What is validated
- Well-formed XML with a
<urlset>or<sitemapindex>root in the sitemaps.org namespace. - Protocol limits: 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file (gzip is supported).
- Absolute
http(s)locations, duplicates, URLs on another host, and<lastmod>values in W3C Datetime format and not in the future.
This checks the file itself. It does not request each listed URL; use the Redirect & Status Checker on samples. Google ignores priority and changefreq.
