About the WebP & AVIF Converter

WebP and AVIF are modern image formats that usually produce smaller files than JPG and PNG at similar visual quality, and both support transparency. This WebP and AVIF converter turns your JPG and PNG files into WebP, and into AVIF when your browser can encode it, showing the size of each result so you can choose the better option.

Smaller images help pages load faster and can improve Largest Contentful Paint when the main image is involved. Current major browsers can display both formats; if you need to support very old browsers or email clients, serve them through the picture element with a JPG or PNG fallback. Conversion runs locally in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Add the JPG or PNG images you want to convert.
  2. Choose WebP or AVIF and set the quality.
  3. Compare the converted sizes with the originals.
  4. Download the files and update your image tags or picture elements.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I convert to AVIF?

AVIF encoding depends on your browser. The converter uses the browser's built-in image encoding, and not every browser can create AVIF files even if it can display them. Try the latest version of Chrome or another browser, or use WebP, which is widely supported for encoding.

Does WordPress support WebP and AVIF?

Many image optimization plugins can also convert and serve modern formats automatically. Check that your theme and any page builder display the converted files correctly before replacing images across the site.

Will WebP images help SEO?

Image format is not a ranking factor by itself. Smaller images can speed up pages, which helps visitors and Core Web Vitals. Google Images can index WebP and AVIF images, so you do not lose image search visibility by switching.
