About the llms.txt Generator
llms.txt is a community proposal, published at llmstxt.org, for a Markdown file at your site root that gives AI tools a short, curated map of your most useful pages. This llms.txt generator builds the file in that format: an H1 with your site or project name, a blockquote summary, H2 sections containing Markdown link lists with short notes, and an optional section for secondary links that can be skipped when context is limited.
It runs in your browser, so your inputs stay on your device. Keep in mind that no major search engine has said it uses llms.txt for ranking, so publishing one is optional. It can be useful for documentation sites and developer tools whose users paste content into AI assistants. Upload the result to /llms.txt and check it with our validator.
How to use it
- Enter your site name and a one or two sentence summary.
- Add sections and list your key pages with a short note for each.
- Move less important links into the Optional section.
- Download llms.txt, upload it to your site root and validate it.
Frequently asked questions
What should I put in llms.txt?
List the pages that best explain what you offer: key product or service pages, documentation, pricing, policies and core guides. Add a one-line note to each link describing what it covers. Keep it curated rather than copying your whole sitemap, since the point is to give AI tools a concise starting map.
Does llms.txt replace robots.txt or my sitemap?
No. robots.txt controls crawler access and your XML sitemap helps search engines discover URLs. llms.txt is an optional, human-readable Markdown summary aimed at AI tools. It does not grant or block access to anything. Keep all three for their separate purposes, and keep robots.txt as the file that sets access rules.
Do ChatGPT or Google use llms.txt?
As of late 2026, no major search engine has said it uses llms.txt for ranking or for choosing sources in AI answers, and support among AI products is limited. Some developer tools and documentation platforms read it. Because it is cheap to create, some sites publish it as a low-effort option, but it should not replace core SEO work.
